Naming product features

Naming helps users understand the product and its functions.

However, always ask yourself if something really needs a name. Sometimes, a mere description is enough and adding a specific name could become friction.

As Polaris suggests, a good product or feature name:

  • Helps users understand what the experience represents
  • Fits into the product's information architecture
  • Makes sense when compared to other products, features, websites, or events in the same market
  • Does not have negative or weird connotations
